HAUSA

Maguzawas

Since the Inception of the Northern Zone, we have made several efforts to start a work among the Hausa-Maguzawas of Northern Nigeria ; however, we have not been able to secure a point of entry. Our major problem has been how to get accommodation to enable us settle among this group. Twice, we were denied accommodation even after sending money for rent. Nevertheless, because of our belief about this field, we would continue to seek a point of entry so as to enable us fulfill our vision for this group.

Who Are The Hausa-Maguzawa People?
They are the core Hausa people of Northern Nigeria . Traditionally, the Hausas were pagans before the conquest of Islam in the 18th century.

Not all the Hausas are Muslims. There are those of them who still maintain the original Hausa customs, tradition, religion (i.e. African Traditional Religion or paganism) and ways of life. These groups of Hausas resisted and rejected Islam. They had the habit of deserting their domain and moving into the hinterland-away from the Hausa Muslim converts. They were and are referred to as Maguzawas, i.e, Maguzawa Musulmi (meaning, those who run away from Muslims)

These traditional Hausa people refused to inter-marry with Fulanis and other people. They maintain their customs and traditions. Today Islam is already eating deep into the fabric of these Hausas, leaving a disproportionate number who are prospects for Christianity and a tool to reaching out to the Hausa Muslims.

Location:
Essentially, the Hausa people are found in Kano , Katsina, Jigawa, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi (Gobir), and Northern part of Kaduna. However, the Maguzawas are concentrated in Kano , Katsina, and northern part of Kaduna states

Language:
Hausa is their first and only language.

Religion: 100% idol worshippers. They are the battleground between Christianity and Islam among the Hausa people

Major Strongholds: Idolatry, Drunkenness, Witchcraft activities.

Our Belief about the Hausa Field
We belief that reaching out this sect of Hausa people would:
1. Help us to Checkmate the further spread of Islam among the core Hausa people.
2. Be a means of reaching the Hausa-Moslems because the reached Hausa Muslim would be a better hand to reach his Hausa-Muslim brother since he would have a better understanding of him because they have the same background.
3. Be a gateway to reaching the North-African countries.
